QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS AND QUALIFYING TIMES FOR SPEED SKATING EVENTS AT THE 2010 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
The entry qualification system and rules for Olympic Speed Skating events are outlined in Rule 209 “Entries for Olympic Winter Games” in the 2008 ISU Special Regulations and Technical Rules for Speed Skating.
In accordance with the above mentioned Rule 209 and information on qualification and entry processes issued by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), the International Skating Union (ISU) hereby announces the applicable qualifying competitions and qualifying times for Speed Skating events at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

I. Qualifying Competitions for determination of event entry quotas
The event entry quotas for the respective distances / events will be determined by the Special Olympic Qualification Classification (SOQC) based on results from the following Essent ISU World Cup Speed Skating Competitions:

a) 500 m and 1000 m, Ladies and Men:

o Essent ISU World Cup Berlin (GER) November 6-8, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Heerenveen (NED) November 13-15, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Calgary (CAN) December 4-6, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Salt Lake City (USA) December 11-13, 2009

b) 1500 m Ladies and Men, 3000 m Ladies, 5000 m Ladies and Men, 10000 m Men:

o Essent ISU World Cup Berlin (GER) November 6-8, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Heerenveen (NED) November 13-15, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Hamar (NOR) November 21-22, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Calgary (CAN) December 4-6, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Salt Lake City (USA) December 11-13, 2009

The Essent ISU World Cup held in Hamar, NOR, on November 21-22, 2009 will be the only qualifying competition for the 5000 m Ladies and 10000 m Men time ranking Special Olympic Qualification Classification (SOQC). World Cup points gained in the 3000 m Ladies and 5000 m Men at the other above mentioned Competitions will count for the SOQC points ranking for 5000 m Ladies and 10000 m Men, respectively.
Moreover, the results from the 5000 m Ladies and the 10000 m Men at the World Cup Competition in Hamar, NOR, on November 21-22, 2009 will count for the SOQC points ranking for the 3000 m Ladies and 5000 m Men, respectively.


c) Team Pursuit, Ladies and Men:

o Essent ISU World Cup Heerenveen (NED) November 13-15, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Calgary (CAN) December 4-6, 2009

o Essent ISU World Cup Salt Lake City (USA) December 11-13, 2009

II. Qualifying times
Only Skaters having achieved the ISU Qualifying Times in accordance with the following procedure may be entered for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games:
